Zee End of the Whirl & Just Zee Two of Us (Two Hoops) - Bags
These moves are accessible even if you’ve never used two hoops before. They don’t involve grip changes and allow you to move more freely with the hoops while creating simple but incredibly effective patterns that are quick and easy to learn. I called them z-spins but basically they involve twisting the hoops with your wrists in a variety of pleasing patterns. A wide selection of this stuff you can do with a friend! We’ll also attempt some partner work with larger groups. You will each need two reasonably light hoops.
Doubly Different (Two Hoops) - Bags
Learn some unusual 2 hoop tricks that don’t fit into standard on-body or poi-style categories. These will include the Hugulator 3000 and the Atomic Lips. This workshop will make you look at two hoops in a different way
Belly-Hoop Dance Fusion for Hoopers - Valentina
Belly dance while you hoop! Learn basics in the ancient art of belly dance and how to incorporate them into your hooping technique. This workshop will expand your expressive range by focusing on the dance of hoop dance. We will break out of the restrictive nature of trick-based hooping by getting our bodies moving. Get ready to sweat! Belly-Hoop Dance is even more of a workout (mentally and physically) than just hooping! Using your arms, shoulders, chest, hips and core to shimmy, undulate and accentuate your hooping will give you a unique style, a new way to embody your music and an amazing workout!
Performance Skills for Hoopers - Valentina
Breaking out of your shell and onto the stage can be one of the most challenging yet satisfying aspects of being a hooper. This workshop will introduce exercises that push your boundaries as a performer, sharpening your skills on stage. We will work on posture, stage-presence, facial expression, body language and the art of effective, genuine emoting. Make your audience feel what you feel, whether it be as simple as your joy from what you are doing (hooping) or your passion about something meaningful in your life. We will brainstorm on picking the right music & costume, the choreographed approach vs. improv and the ability to create a “WOW!” factor in your audience.
Sweet Release: Casual Tosses and Dramatic Body Rolls - Bex
We like to have control. We like to know what’s going on, where our pieces and parts are at all times. When our hoop is not in hand, we constantly check in on it making sure “it’s ok.” In our HoopDance though, some of the most dramatic punctuations happen when the hoop leaves our hand: simply put, when we LET GO. In this low-intermediate workshop, we dive into the realm of hoop flight, exploring toss techniques and body roll maneuvers. We’ll analyze both mechanical and psychological roadblocks that trip us up, discover “the worst that can happen” and experience the magnificent joy of the catch!
GoGo Hooping - Lolli Hoops
Explore how to move your body with your hoop for dynamic and flirty gogo style moves. We will explore foot work, body rolls, and how to incorporate moves you already know into a more dynamic flow. We will also explore new moves and the un-tapped potential of taking moves out of their "normal" plane or context. This is a HIGH ENERGY fast paced class! Suitable for all levels, beginners who are comfortable with waist, hand hooping, lifts, and are looking for a challenge are welcome!
