Astounded by the beauty and variety of hoop dancing at Burning Man 2005, Michelle knew that she had to try it herself. Back home in Boston, she attended a party where hoops were available for borrowing around the dance floor. Three hours later she was hooked; there was no turning back and no stopping her. She began studying hoop dance with Marria Grace as well as bringing her growing collection of hoops to parks, festivals, parties, beaches, barbeques... any place where there might be space and time for hooping and people with whom to share her passion.
Hooping has opened up whole new worlds for Michelle. Normally shy and reserved, hand her a hoop and she has no fear. Once out of shape and awkward, she has grown strong, flexible, coordinated and graceful. Hooping has brought the joy of dance back into her life. Her enthusiasm for hoop dance is contagious, and she loves to share the playfulness and delight as well as the physics of hooping. She co-coordinates summertime hoop jams on the Cambridge Common, teaches and performs with the Boston Hoop Troop.
Michelle has participated in numerous hoop and spinning art retreats, such as Hoop Convergence, Pittsfield City Hoopla, Wildfire, Sphere Camp and HoopFest New England. Her enthusiasm for hooping has grown exponentially. When she is not hooping on a dance floor, stage, in a park or dance studio, she can often be found in a glass studio, pursuing another passion: the art of glassblowing.
Michelle has been appointed the Boston Hoop Troop’s ambassador to China. She is responsible for sharing hoop love and passion in Beijing and beyond.
