Laura Orc
Laura is a believer in circles. She believes everything that goes around, comes around, and that couldn’t be better demonstrated than with a hula hoop. Laura is a hula hoop enthusiast and on any given day, you can find her twirling and flowing in a circle of her own. Laura discovered the power of the plastic circle in 2009 and has never looked back. She began teaching after becoming the President of the UMass Hoop Collective in college, a student-run organization dedicated to teaching hoop dance on campus. After graduation, Laura was still thirsty to share her art. She began performing and teaching across New England. In 2012, Laura was invited to join members of the Electric Forest Hoop Troop to perform with The String Cheese Incident. In 2014, Laura joined other members of the Boston Hoop Troop in The Slutcracker, for her first-ever burlesque adventure. Learning hoop dance was a challenging yet rewarding experience – a gift that gave her tremendous amounts of self-esteem, self-awareness, and genuine happiness. She gets such a rush from giving others this gift, that she dedicates much of her time to teaching and spreading the hoop love. She has taught workshops at the Eastern Massachusetts Rhythm Festival since 2013. She also enjoys sharing hula hooping with those who might have never been introduced. She works with Brio Integrated Theatre, a group whose mission is to bring the performing arts to those with physical and mental disabilities. Laura is a Hoopnotica-certified instructor and you can find her teaching weekly classes and private instruction in the greater Boston area.
