Sirena Spinz
Sirena's love for hooping can be equated to a mermaid's love for the open sea. When she picked up her first hoop, several years back, it was heavy, as it was her mom's padded/weighted exercise hoop. Despite the awkwardness of the utilitarian purpose, Sirena was intrigued and when she finally experimented with her first actual dance hoop, she was smitten. Sirena hooped for several years, completely self-taught without knowing any fellow hoopers. Years of hooping solo was a wonderful, private experience, but it wasn't until she moved to the Cambridge/Somerville area that she discovered there is a wonderful hooping community with arms wide open. And as waves dance atop the ocean's surface, Sirena has been dancing, spinning and twirling her hoop ever since!
You will also find Sirena spinning waves in the salsa dance scene. As she studied both hoop and salsa side by side, it has always been her dream to find a way to blend the two dance forms together and create her own hoop style with a latin twist. She calls this hula/salsa fusion "salhula!" Sirena aspires to create a bridge between the two dances, as well as the two communities, through both performance and teaching. Hey hoopers! In 2016, Sirena was proud to celebrate her liberated spirit in The Slutcracker, a defining moment in her life where she experienced that dreams really do come true if you are daring enough to chase them. And as a siren calls from the sea, Sirena aspires to share and teach the magic of hooping and calls to all who seek to express themselves and experience the hoop community!
